The Exville Charcoal Gloss is a 75 x 150mm ceramic subway tile from Spain in a deep charcoal black with a gloss finish. It's made for internal walls, so it suits bathroom walls and feature walls where you want a darker backdrop that catches the light.
Where it works
The classic subway shape reads well behind a vanity, around a shower recess or across a laundry splashback. On a feature wall it gives a room a moody, low-key finish, and the gloss surface bounces light around smaller spaces. This is a wall tile, so keep it off floors and other trafficked surfaces.
Laying and grout
At 75 x 150mm the tile takes to a traditional brick-bond or stacked layout. The gloss face wipes clean easily, which helps in wet areas. Grout colour changes the look a fair bit here: a pale grout draws out the brick pattern, while a charcoal grout keeps the wall reading as one tone.
